This attic fan seems to be of a reasonably good guality for the money....I looked at several cheaper ones... The cheaper ones do NOT have sealed bearings... Whitch that was the deal breaker for me.. This unit has sealed bearings--- I would recomend this product...
This attic fan works as expected and is a replacement for the same model I installed back in 1995. The only issue I have with this product is that I wish Broan would add rubber motor mounts to help dampen the vibration. However, adding your own rubber insulation between the plywood mount ( you will need to build ) and the attic studs will help alot. All in all, I am satisfied with this product and can definately tell a difference in cooling costs before and after installation.
I purchased and had an electrician install two of these fans as replacements. Installation was fast with no problems. The fans have been quietly spinning their little electric hearts out in this hot weather, coming on and going off according to the setting on the built-in thermostat. I highly recommend them.
Very easy to install, took 20 minutes. Set it up and put the thermostat to 90. It gets hot here inPomona Ca. I live in a two story house. Before I installed the fan the thermostat upstairs would read 90 sometimes 93 degrees in the Summer if I left the air off. So far in the peak heat of 100 degrees it hasn't gotten above 82. Most of the time it stays below 80. The fan does what it says. My house has never been cooler.
The fan arrived safe and quickly in the original factory box. This is a replacement for another fan in the same location, same mount.Quiet fan in final installation (see below).Works as expected cooling attic (too early to comment on life).Normal/easy mount.Excellent price.Application specific comments:MOUNT: I did have to get into the attic and access the fan twice. The first thermostat setting did not turn on the fan by 11AM here in FL (should go on by ~9AM on a sunny day). So while I was up in the attic resetting the Tstat, I took the time to redo the mounts. I used a home made isolating rubber type spacer between the mounting ears and the wall. This significantly reduced the noise transmitted from the fan to the house. Now all I hear is the actual sound of the fan blades with little or no vibration resonating in the house or wall.TSTAT SETTING: This fan has the thermostat permanently mounted inside the fan shroud. The other fans I have used the thermostat was mounted on the wall outside the shroud. I believe the remote mount increases the temperature that the fan/thermostat "sees". Inside the shroud you are closer to the gable vent and in the air flow both of which I believe lowers the appearant temperature the thermostat sees. If you are doing a replacement, you may need to reduce the temperature setting.ASSEMBLY: Easy to assemble as expected. I was not real comfortable with the mounting ear screws which stuck into the fan blade area. This left very little clearance between the fan and the screws. The other fans I used were either nut/bolts or just had the head in the fan area intruding much less. This was a non-issue in my installation as it turned out.DON'T BUY THE PLASTIC GABLE END VENT FAN! It is a better design, lighter weight, more rigid but the motor does not have adequate life (<3 years in FL).
