Mesa Safe Company Model MHRC916E Residential and Hotel Electronic Burglary Safe, Cream Reviews

    1. I ordered 2 Mesa safes! The first time they were placed in an outter box with almost no cushioning, and they both arrived dammaged beyond use(UPS delevery). I then had a lengthy conversation with Amazon customer service informing them of the problem in detail. The replacement shipment was sent with Fedex and no outter box at all. Both again arrived dammaged beyond use! I refused this shipment and did not have it replaced. Amazon does better with books!!

    2. The safe was chosen for my son's dorm room at college. It was to hold his laptop (17" screen) and other electronic items. It was returned the next day.The Good: The safe lock mechanism seemed to work well. We inserted the batteries and the display on the door came to life. A code was entered on the keypad and the door locked smoothly. The Bad: Based on the interior dimensions of the safe the laptop should have fit easily, however, the box for the mechanism on the back of the door gets in the way when trying to insert a large object since the door does not swing past 90 degrees. The laptop had to be inserted at an odd angle and twisted to get it in. I can foresee damage to the laptop after a number of these insertions and extractions. The Ugly: The battery compartment on the back of the door was loose. The inner door cover was hanging loose and had a screw missing which was found inside the safe. The paint was chipped on the exterior of the safe. The corner of the door opening was cracked. Worst yet the door was misaligned and would not close or open without great physical effort.Bottom Line: The safe has quality control issues. If you are looking for a safe which can hold a smaller laptop you might want to give this one a try. The locking features are good. If you experience the same problems don't worry, Amazon's return system is great. I went to the order page, hit the "Available actions" button, chose "Return items" and followed the directions. UPS was at my door the next day to pick up the item for return.PS: Somewhere I read that the safe came with 3/4 inch bolts to secure the safe to studs or the floor. I therefore assumed 3/4 inch holes in the safe to insert a cable lock to hold the safe to the dorm bed frame. The holes are much smaller. It seems that the head of the bolt measures 3/4 inch. The cable lock I bought in advance will have to be returned as well.

    3. I have 2. One I have had for 3 yrs and the other for a year. Both work great...BUT..... the first one started not locking....and I would have to bump it or push it. After about 2-3 months I got mad and took it apart. Half of the screws were loose inside the mechanism. I tighten them all and its worked great the past 2 years. The second came and the door hinge was bent. I had to use some giant screw drivers and drivers and some BIG hammers to get the door back in shape. After a few weeks I had the same weird won't lock problem. Took it apart, tightened everything. I also had to re-solder some of the contacts.... It works perfectly. So its a good product but the assembly quality control and the shipping really hurt this produce.

    4. When the item was received I could not get it to work. After talking with tech support it was determined the item was defective. I noticed the box had been opened before and there was some minor damage to one corner of the safe. Tech said they suppect the safe had been dropped at some point. I returned the safe for a refund, which was handled with no problem. I needed a safe right away so I purchased one at a local store.

    5. Same safe that I am used to using at nicer hotels. Works just fine to slow down any would be buglers.... Not fire proof....Shipping was fast but could use some better padding in the original box for rough shipping as an individual item.

    6. Masa safe are poor in quality control and customer service, the electronic board is cheap and the safe tends to freeze or go crazy.I bought 3 safes a year a go, I spoke to customer service and the technician himself told me he was surprised they lasted this long.A very bad product.

    7. When I received my Mesa Safe MHRC916E form the UPS driver, I opened the box and found the electronic keypad/card reader unit broken off of the door. I contacted Mesa Safe Company and they sent a door replacement the same day which included an attached electronic keypad/card reader unit.We are very happy with the safe and its reliable operation. Except for the plastic keypad/card reader unit, the safe is very sturdy. We are not happy however with UPS. We have received damaged items from them in the past as have many others. If you ever visit a large UPS distribution center, like the one in Ontario California, you will know why items arrive damaged.
