The product works wonderful. The water hammer sound completely stopped. I would recommend this product for anybody with the sump sound!
I had someone put in a new sump pump. I don't even think the old system had a check valve, but he put one in on the new system, which should be done. The new sump worked fine, but we began to notice after it finished its cycle there were two loud "clunks". Which after some investigation and research I found it was the check valve closing, then the pressure in there making a "water hammer" clunk. When you stood in the basement by the sump pump it didn't sound that bad. But it actually sounded worse as you went to the ground floor and 2nd floor as it echoed up there. It wasn't extremely bad. Bareable, but not desireable. I made mention of this to the guy who installed it. He told me he put in a good quality check valve, but I could tell he didn't seem to know as much on this topic. So I researched on my own and found this one online, purchased it and asked him to install it for me. He seemed a little skeptical, but said he'd try it. It is awesome. There is barely a sound when it shuts now. I love it. So glad I found it.
If its wrong to love this check valve, I don't want to be right. Totally silent. It changed my life!
Yes, I know who needs a clear view of the flapper but its still cool, and does the job well! I'm glad I bought it, since my sump runs intermittently almost 24/7
I echo all of the very positive experiences that have been related here. This isn't just a quiet check valve, it's a silent one. No more bang! bang! bang! as the sump pump works. Peace and quiet and a good night's sleep. Beautiful.
My newly installed sump pump was located directly under my bedroom in our crawl space, and I would lie awake all night listening to the loud clunk at the end of every cycle. I bought this valve, installed it in about 20 minutes, and now I sleep in silence. Great design and a great product.I opted to use rubber couplings with the steel clamps on the ends to install this thing instead of going the pvc cement route. If it ever malfunctions I don't have to start cutting pvc, I can simply remove the couplings and pop the valve out.
After more than 30 years of listening to the sump-clunk, I now have to concentrate to make sure that the sump system is working! Easy to install...like any other check-valve. I'm very satisfied. I will be ordering another one very soon so that I have a backup.
After many nights of waking up and many days of being annoyed after the "THUD" and sometimes the "THUD THUD THUD THUD" of multiple water hammers that occured after my sump pump cut off and echoed throughout the basement and ground floor of our small home, this little baby has finally brought me peace. It is WELL worth the expense in my opinion. I'm not a plumber, but installed it in about 15 minutes with a sawzall to trim down the existing pipe and some PVC cement to make the new connections. While the union joints aren't the fastest or easiest to install, they will make replacing the valve easy should I ever need to. It's a solid, well built item. Why this isn't a standard install in a home sump pump set-up is beyond me. It's so quiet in fact, that I can't wait for the pump to run again!
After our HOA decided all sumps had to be connected to a common tile, I started experiencing 5-8 seconds of rapid fire, loud hammering that would wake me from a sound sleep 2 floors up. After long and careful research this valve seemed to be the answer. I balked over the need to weld the PVC together, not because it's difficult but because I had a slight misalignment issue and just prefer to have that flexibility if thing didn't solve it. I finally decided on this valve, installing it with one end on a short length of pipe allowing me to continue to use the rubber coupling for the misalignment. The first time the pump ran I was shocked!!! Did it leak and spray water everywhere? No. I had to watch the next cycle to believe it. TOTAL silence!!! If the semi permanent installation of welding the pipes concerns you, dismiss that thought now. This thing really works! I'll never have any other valve on a sump pump.
Ordering:When ordering through Amazon, was sent a 2" solid white check valve. (obviously not this product). Amazon was very helpful in getting the return processed immediately, but could not confirm on reorder that I would receive the correct product. With this in mind they graciously provided me the contact info for the direct seller. I placed the order directly and received the correct product.Product Review:On a one horsepower pump was having trouble with all other manufacturer check valves either blowing apart (rubber type) or failing prematurely. This product is very well made and has couplers that cement into existing PVC. It then has O-rings and fittings that allow it to screw into plumbing for easy removal of pump and cleaning. Being that you can see the internals, you can verify everything is working properly. There is no noise what so ever when pump stops like the previous valves I had. If you want a reliable quiet check valve look no further. I have bought 3 of these, one for each pump in my house, and will never turn back to any other type.
