    Customer Reviews

This pump is pretty expensive but it is very quiet. I have had an issue with it not coming when there is a demand and I have to flip the switch back off and on again to get it to work. This may be a pressure switch breaking in or something. Overall I am happy with it so far.

Ok so I have read the reviews on here. This must be the same person posting this all over the net because he uses the same keywords like "JACKHAMMER" etc. I can tell that this person may have had problems but let me tell you this. I have had mine in for over a year at this point and I use it EVERYDAY! I LIVE IN MY RV! I must say that I am VERY pleased with this pump over the 2 GPM pump that I had. I think it was 2.8 or something like that. Perhaps some people get pumps that are defective, thats to be expected in any line of business, but I highly doubt that the pump goes out over 4 times in a row. That almost has to be an installer error! I could be wrong, but lets look at the probability of that... 1 and 15 million or more...I can assure you that if you purchase this pump it is a great one and you will be very pleased with the pressure that it gives you as its more like the house hold pressure your use to. It also is great because its VERY quiet and reliable. You will not regret your purchase and their customer service from what I have read on this site is GREAT as they will warranty their products even if you mess them up! LOL... Anyway you can take this with a grain of salt, but its true I have had one in my RV for over a year and its great! Thanks SHURflo for a great pump!-RUSTY

SHURFLO WATER PUMPShurFlo Extreme Series Smart Sensor 5.7 gpm variable speed pump was purchased 8/5/2005. Pressure and flow was similar to household plumbing. In early July 2008, it lost pressure. After a faucet was turned off pump ran at very low speed for minutes to hours. If power was turned off and back on, the pump would stay off. No water leaks, no air in lines. Same problem with both freshwater tanks, suggesting not a problem with tubing between tanks and pump.ShurFlo replaced the pump under warranty July 8, 2008. Pump replacement labor cost $150 and 4 hours in a waiting room.If I had known the new pump would act like this, I would have fixed the old one. The old one had no adjustments, ran quietly and always at the perfect speed to meet volume demands. Replacement pump has pressure adjusting screw in the center of the pump head.Replacement pump is unpredictable. Sometimes seems to work fairly well, then will surge and cycle or shut down. It is often noisy like a jack hammer. I have attempted to adjust it over the past 7 months without success. Several times I have thought it was adjusted correctly, only to have it change in the next day or so. It often acts like the entry level pump that led me to upgrade to Shurflo to begin with. It's no fun in the shower--high/low pressure & flow, hot/cold temperature. OW!IT'S NOT JUST MERV Club Discussion Forum:1. We just installed a new Shurflo 5.7 in our trailer to replace a Whisper King. We had a 5.7 in our last rig and were VERY pleased with it, until it failed. The new one I just installed is a warranty replacement from Shurflo and I just took the old one out, put the new one in.... and YIPES! The new one, at ANY speed, hammers like a jackhammer!! At first I thought I had an air leak in the intake, because that will sometimes cause a noise, but after getting a severely bruised armpit double-doing all the joints and making SURE there was no air leak, it still pounds like a hammer. And it does it all ALL speeds, fast or slow. Anybody had this type of thing happen to them? I emailed back to shurflo and got a couple of quick replys, neither of which were any help unfortunately. We've just come back home from a week in the woods, and the noisiest thing there was our pump.2. The old water pump(shurflo 2.8) died last week so we took this as a chance to upgrade to a 5.7 Extreme . At first it worked fine but over the last 2 days it has gone downhill fast. whenever a faucet is opened it chatters or jackhammers terribly. the shower is almost unusable as the pump cycles off and on every 5-10 seconds causing the flow to almost stop and then take off again.3. I went thru the same problems with my water pump. My OEM Shurflo 5.7 died, replaced it with a new one, this one had the spurts and hammering. I went thru 4 new pumps. I finally tried the competitor that worked but the pressure was not as good.4. I have the referenced pump as part of my newly purchased RV. It's one funky pump. Starts & runs for about a second, stops for a second or so, then starts again and runs fine. Water Hammer/knocking/chatter: Does this sometimes. I've narrowed it down. If I'm connected to city water then disconnect and shift to the pump, I get the chatter. As previously discussed, I open two faucets, the pump chatters for perhaps 15 seconds then all's well.I'm sure there are more aggravating machines but, at least to date, I've had the good fortune to not run into one. When this pump dies, it gets replaced by a non-Shurflow pump, warranty or not.

I too had a problem with this pump failing after 6 months. Shurflo was great and sent me a spare while they did warranty. The problem was caused by the pump being too close to a water heater (about 6 feet) My last pump lasted 5 years and fought a major wild land fire before the drive assy failed (small leak but still working) Easy to fix yourself! So, either use an expansion tank on the output or a check valve to keep building pressure from damaging the unit. There is not a better pump unless you triple the money. Reasonably quiet and variable speed. I use the 24V version in a solar house.

This pump replaces one that went out in our motorhome. It provides the same water pressure as the old one did which is acceptable and was easy to replace.

This is a variable speed pump, as opposed to most others which are cycling on-off pumps. About cycling pumps: the key for a live aboard situation with a freshwater shower and water heater is avoiding pumps which cycle on and off using an accumulator which can cause water pressure to go up and down 25psi-45psi or so continuously during use. If you are showering with hot water, this tends to cause the volume of water to vary, and in a lot of water systems it can cause the water temperature to vary as well. Very unpleasant when showering. A cycling pump with a minimum (start up) pressure which is higher, plus an expansion/accumulator tank, can minimize the problem, but it's still an issue. On-off cycling pumps tend to be noisy too. On the other hand, a variable speed pump like this 5900 series makes the pressure variability problem go away entirely. The high pressure makes showers just like home - which is Shurflo's motto. But their design is not rugged enough to withstand its 3-year service life. This is my 3rd of these. Failure is typically due to leakage into the pump body, valve failure, or failure of the sensors. If it's the pump body your fuse will blow and the pump will run slower and slower as it destroys its bearings and contacts. If it's the sensors, you get sticking and erratic operation. If the valves, you may see it unable to stop running slowly as it tries to get the last few psi, getting blazing hot until it (softens its fittings?) and fails. Changing the head assembly yearly might achieve longer life, but only if leaking never happens. In my case I've just let the pumps run to failure and then swapped them out. It's frustrating having to tolerate such a short service life, but as I said, I know of no other pump which gives such perfect pressure regulation. One other thing - it's been my experience that running it with an accumulator can improve its lifetime, even though the documentation says it is unnecessary. I've suspected that it might be because temperature cycling and expansion of a water heater in the same system can force water past the pump's check valve, causing leakage which leads to failure, but the accumulator takes up the expansion and prevents the over pressure condition. Just speculation. At any rate, buy this pump if you want the best performance. There's nothing like the perfect hot shower. Be prepared to accept the limited reliability. And try the accumulator tank idea - but even then, you probably will not reach your 3 year guaranteed lifetime, so save your receipt.

you can buy this and maybe it will work. But maybe isn't good enough for me. My classic 444 is still going strong after 7yrs of freezes and accidentally running 2 days straight, and I have ordered a 3.0 revolution to replace this extreme series 5.7.The problem is the pump tries to anticipate how much pressure you will need, but it doesn't have a minimum pressure level so it will go all the way down to no water and back up to full pressure, and then down again. Over and over. It should have an option to turn of the "smart sensors" and just give full pressure all the time. I mean who would ever need it to be 1psi?The end result is I have a $220 turd that I am too late to return and no one will buy from me. A testimonial to how good my classic 444 is, I bought another Shurflo (3.0 revolution) with no hesitation. It's the best model of the classic design and a great price. I highly recommend you get that one instead of this one.
