Power and Performance
Powered by a 6,500 RPM motor, the DC411B's abrasive 4-1/2-inch-diameter wheel will slice through most metals quickly and cleanly. Besides the cutting and grinding wheel, the versatile DC411B will also accept a Zirconia-grit flap disk, stringer wire wheel, and rubber-backed sanding disc, allowing you to clean, smooth, shape and finish a wide variety of materials, including steel, wood and masonry.
Comfort and Convenience
The DC411B has a low-profile, jam-pot housing that ensures precise gear alignment for a smoother, quieter transmission while allowing access to tight, narrow spaces. A quick-change wheel release provides easier and quicker wheel removal without the need for a wrench, and since there's no cord to drag around, you can work un-tethered anywhere at any height or angle. Other commercial-grade features include a two-position side handle and a large trigger switch with lock-off button.
Bare Tool
This DEWALT cordless tool does not come with a battery or charger. It's compatible with the DC9096 18-volt XRP battery pack and DW9117 15-minute charger.
Warranty
This DEWALT tool is backed by three-year limited warranty covering any defects due to faulty materials or workmanship (from the date of purchase). It's also covered by DEWALT's one-year free service contract, where DEWALT will maintain the tool and replace worn parts caused by normal use--for free.

Anyone thinking that this is the same as a standard Dewalt angle grinder with a 120 volt motor/cord will be disappointed. That said, even with this tools limitations on power, it is very handy to not have to lug out cords to do a small grinding or cutting job. If you have budget for only one grinder - and had some heavy grinding to do - get a corded model, for a second, third + grinder, or for only light work this tool can be really handy.
I don't know how some of the other reviewers were using this tool, but I also bought a 4" diamond blade (an expensive high-quality one with lots of diamonds) for cutting through stucco siding and concrete slabs---it works terrific! I don't write many glowing reviews, but I can't say enough good things about this tool. It's light weight and it runs a long time on a single battery---longer than my DeWalt 18V cordless reciprocating saw---doing serious damage. I'm glad I bought it and I'm glad it's in my tool kit. The only negative is that it should have a dust collector attachment because this thing kicks up clouds of dust as it devours concrete.
Mine came in a combo kit with other 18v tools. I fully expected to eBay it away as a bare tool.Surprise! I've used this thing way more often than I expected! Before I could eBay it, I had a use for it. I use it to sharpen shovels and mower blades, and to cut decking bolts. On several occasion, I've used it to cut chain and to cut slots in stripped bolt heads. This tool probably won't be suitable for all-day grinding, but it's super handy for those one-off uses as a cordless tool. I'm keeping mine!
I have a pneumatic cutoff tool similar to this, but it requires time to start the compressor and dryers on the air line, and for the tanks to come to pressure. I always have an 18V XRP battery ready to go so for quick jobs this is much faster. It features 2 nice removable guards, one partially open, and one fully enclosed, each with quick release removal and installation levers. The side handle unscrews for convenienceAdditionally, if you want to use normal wheels from the welding store, there is a locknut and wrench that come with this - you don't use them with the dewalt wheels but if you have a supply of grinding wheels you will need those parts, so put them together (I bought the tool only which saves quite a bit and did not include a case)When you first get the dewalt wheels you should do a edge cut and surface grind to balance the wheel - they are not always perfect and you can feel the wobble until they shape up, which doesn't take long.Altogether the convenience factor of using 18V batteries (it's ready for li-ion btw) instead of my pneumatic system is great. For big projects, I'll have the compressor running anyways so it's a no brainer, but for small work this is a cheap solution to grind, or cut.
not real fast or powerfull but for cutting off bolts, cut a hole in sheet metal 32' up in the air it can't be beat
This grinder works great, but I only suggest it for when there isn't an outlet near by to plug in a corded one. With a fully charged lithium XRP battery, you get about 4 - 5 minutes of work before the battery dies. After experiencing the limited life of this grinder, I thought about returning it for another corded one, but I have come across some instances where there either wasn't an outlet near by or my extension cords were quite long enough to reach my project. I decided to keep it for just those situations.A corded one is also rated at a higher amperage, so this is best for light duty projects. I definitely would suggest only having this as an accessory to a corded grinder.
If you already have DeWalt 18v batteries, then adding this tool to your kit is an affordable way to have a great grinder. The retailer shipped the product quickly and in perfect condition.
