I used this Frosted Glass paint on window in the bathroom. It was between this and the contact-type film application. I followed the directions and had good success with an even look. Just spray 6-8 inches away. I found that after 3 coats, there was no change in the look, so three seems maximum. But we accidentally took a a squeegee to the paint and a bunch of it scraped off. Also, our fingers hit the paint when we opened and closed the window and the paint also scraped off.I called Rustoleum and they suggested putting a clear enamel over it, but to test it first because the enamel on the Frosted Glass might change the color. We're going to scrape it off and use the film instead.I think that if the window is in a NO traffic/use area, I would use this again. It's easier to apply. BUT it just scrapes off too easily.
Ordered this to frost my bathroom window. Followed directions to a T and the results were very impressive. There is no way to tell from sight that the windows were treated with a spray, no streaks, no thin coated areas of the glass. As long as you use it per the instructions it will work as intended. Now for the bad part. As I was putting on the final coat of the spray it started to sputter. There is about half the can left so no reason for it to seem "out of gas". Noticed an accumulation of the spray in liquid form around the nozzle which seems to be causing the sputtering. If I can get the nozzle to work without sputtering then I can use it to frost one more window. I will try to clean it with warm water see if the nozzle will clean up for use, but if anyone has other suggestions I am open to it. Product would have gotten a 4 or 5 star rating if it wasn't for the sputtering with half the can left.
This product works as promised - however there is a bit of streaking, if you really look at it. Not really noticeable for most things(ie. windows) - but kinda noticeable on my glass coffee table.**Tips on application**(1) The glass has to be vertical (ie on the door or piece put up against a wall) for this product to work properly - otherwise it will get really bad streaks (I learned the hard way with horizontal glass pieces)(2) You really have to make sure the spray is within 10"-12" of the surface - if its too close, you will get streaks, if its too far away the spray particles will partially solidify before making contact with the glass, and brush off like dust.(3) Spray with overlap and slowly, When doing a continuous spray, perform the turns off the glass (and onto the masked/paper off sides) - so you don't get "spots" on the edges.(4) If you still have noticeable streaks after a 3rd pass, don't try to fix it - it will most likely get worse if attempting to fix it(5) If you mess up, it cleans off with water and some paper towels and bit of elbow grease....if you can, let the water soak for 10 minutes or so, then wipe hard....
I purchased this product on a recommendation from a local big box home improvement store. My project was to create a frosted/etched glass look on my glass shower door. I would not recommend that you use this product for any large applications such as an entire window or door. It is very difficult to produce an even looking coat, and the product comes off very easily. I followed the instructions that said I could wipe down the applied area with soap and water, and when I did this it took off some of the application. If you are making temporary decorative snowflakes on the windows for the holidays, this will work great, but I would think twice before using it on a project that requires a larger application. For windows or shower doors I would recommend using the Avery Etchmark vinyl product. After some learning about application techniques, I ended up with a beautiful shower door that has a professional etched glass look. One very important tip for applying Etchmark. Use a spray bottle to apply a good amount of water over the application surface, place your Etchmark in postion on the surface, and then use your vinyl squeegee to smooth out the vinyl and get the water out. I did not get professional looking results without the water.
Our front door has a decorative ornament in between glass but if you get close to the door you can really see into the house - and I just don't like it at all.I bought this spray and sprayed the glass from both inside and outside. It definitely doesn't block the sunlight and really gives me more privacy because now for sure, no one can see through the glass.
Just used this on a bathroom window. I used it according to directions and it looks beautiful. I think the key to good results are to spray quickly across, side to side. If you stay on one spot for more than a second you will probably get streaks. I suggest using some type of face protection because it does have a strong odor and may cause some nose & throat irritation in sensitive individuals. Highly recommended!
I've read several reviews from more than one site on this product; some good, some not so good. So I decided to give it a try. Although I also purchased a roll of window film because I just couldn't decide. Needless to say once my husband and I discussed our options we went with the spray (mostly because it seemed like the process would be much easier not to mention 5-6 times cheaper). And to my surprise it worked perfectly. I made sure the glass was clean and dry, I shook the can several times before I sprayed it. It dried evenly with no streaks. There were just a few open spots so I sprayed another coat after allowing the first coat to dry for awhile - and it was perfect! I was so excited with results on the front door, I used it on the top and bottom of my three window pane back door. I will be returning the expensive window film.... Thank you Rust-Oleum for such an awesome and affordable product. Now the test will be to see how long the finish will actually last. I'll keep you posted (^_^)
