If you are seeking an affordable roaster oven that is: easy to clean, easy to use, a great way to bake a Thanksgiving turkey, a space saver if you need your regular oven to bake other dishes concurrently, then this item should be considered. The oven will accommodate at least a 15-lb. turkey. There were no real negatives other than be aware that you will need to use a special kind of baking product on the turkey skin to make it brown and enhance the appearance; this special sauce is mentioned in the baking instructions and is easy to find at the grocery store. Also, while not a complaint, I expected the roaster to weigh more than it did. The aluminum lid was understandably very lightweight and it could be dented easily, but I cannot say it is fair to equate quality with the thickness/weight of materials used in construction. The electric cord was only about 3 feet in length and required use of an extension cord, so a 6-foot cord would have been preferred. Overall, this unit offers value at a low cost based on my one experience using it.
-It only heats the outer edge of the pan and not the center and this burns and dry's out the edges. Also the NON STICK FLAKES off after a half dozen uses. YUM!!YUM!!!Eat those little flakes and scrub a bit HARDER to clean it!!! Not to mention the burnt area's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I cook a lot of thing such as meatballs in speghetti sauce and vegetable soup for 12 hours +++++. Sorry about my luck...
My roaster arrived with a bent lid. I completed an online form with Hamilton Beach, which was ignored, and then called their Customer Service number; it was finally replaced -- with the wrong lid. The first time I used the oven it emitted smoke; I called Customer Service, and after waiting on hold for 15 minutes was told this is normal for a new oven -- although nothing in the instruction manual alerts the user to this fact. The roaster oven is billed as baking quicker than a conventional oven; it took twice as long to roast our dinner -- not half as long. The slow cooker function also did not work properly; after 10 hours on a low heat, I had to turn it to a high heat for a few more hours to complete the cooking.I am in the process of returning this product to Hamilton Beach.
Not a big fan of this roaster. First unit we had the themostat burnt out after the second use. We figured it was a fluke and bought another since we overall enjoyed the size and ease of cleaning. After third use we can smell the thermostat burning and we believe it will only be a matter of time before this one burns out. We will not be replacing it with anothe HB product.
I have previously owned this brand of roaster and other brands and after trying other, cheaper brands, came back to this one because of the durability of the Hamilton Beach brand. It also cooks faster than the other brands.
Just got it today. Very disappointing. Amazon site says it has preheat/on indicator light. I'm still looking for it. My other roaster ovens have solid feet. This has no feet. Only grommet like buttons that come out easily and don't push back in without a lot of force. Temp. control says it goes up to 450 degrees. It has been on 6 hours, and is touching about 420. Hamilton Beach must have sold out.
THIS ROASTER IS GREAT! SO MUCH CHEAPER THAN BUYING PARTS AND PAYING LABOR TO GET AN OVEN REPAIRED. DOES EVERYTHING I NEED-BAKED A WHOLE HAM I'M GOING TO TRY A TURKEY NEXT.LINDA
Very happy with my purchase. We had one before and were lost without it. Time to make some pulled pork. :)
I have owned the 18qt model for at least 9 or 10 years. Admittedly I only use once or twice a year to roast a turkey. This saves my regular oven for sides etc. I always make too much stuff!Anyhow, this roasts a turkey in less time than a conventional oven, but will not brown the meat. The non-browning does not bother me at all, as we do not typically eat the skin. OK, so it doesn't look as good as one roased in an oven, but it looks good, and the meat is always very juicy. The rack mkes it easy to transport teh turkey to cutting or serving platter. I then pour teh juices into a saute pan to make gravy.
Use dryer sheets in case of burnt food stuck to edges of roaster. Watch your food with any roaster. Cooked a whole leg of pork ... delicious. Looking for another HB roaster now. This review is by my wife, Norma.
