InSinkErator DMG-00 Deluxe Mounting Gasket Review
InSinkErator DMG-00 Deluxe Mounting Gasket "custom hot tub"
With the replacement of this gasket, which was fairly non-eventful for a handy guy like me, my Insinkerator no longer flings ground food back in my face.
The product description mentions installation in 3 easy steps starting AFTER you disconnect the plumbing. My Pro SS is installed with rigid drain pipe, like most undersink installations, that either requires the strength and agility of a full-grown male chimpanzee to dissemble or a plumber at the customary rates ($120 for the first half hour in my area). The OTHER 3 steps might be a breeze, but... All of this for an $8 part? I'm now going down a different avenue and will try the antimicrobial insert, which (if I can trust those directions) apparently just slips in from above, without any need to "unhook" the disposal unit. I suggest you take a close look under your sink before you throw away $8 that might otherwise pay for a perfectly good sandwich and/or a cup of strong coffee (depending on the customary rates in your area). If you decide to buy this anyway and install it yourself, chances are you'll also need the coffee, some aspirin, a couple of bandages...and maybe that sandwich when you realize the sink won't be back in working order in time to cook dinner! Good luck.
I put these replacements in two of my sinks - one with PVC drains and one with rigid. Both were easy enough to disconnect from the plumbing. Loosening the so-called "Quick Lock Sink Mount" ring on one of them actually took a little more muscle, but eventually I got the leverage right with the wrench. You're better off with a long allen wrench than with the tool provided with the disposer. The part that also takes a bit of strength is hoisting the disposer back up into place. I almost wished I had used a jack or something for that, so that I could have hands free to position and tighten the quick lock ring. Anyway, it ultimately works out.As to the product itself, it slips right on and mounts easily. Feels like we have a new disposer. One tip - put a few phone books under the disposer when you loosen the quick lock retaining ring, so that when it ultimately falls from the sink (and it will) it falls a short distance and is cushioned by the phone books.
It does its job and looks pretty good doing it. The disposal doesn't seem as smelly after installing this. The install was a bit rough, but I had a friend help me squeeze the gasket and disposal up as far into the sink as possible to catch the grooves. Locked in place and have had no issues.
Arrived quickly & packaged well. Everything as described. Easy to install.I had read stories about how difficult it would be, not true in my case.
