The good :1. There don't seem to be many hoods that lie between the super-cheap ones that just don't suck any air at all and the super-expensive designer kitchen fetishist ones. This one is in that gap, so that's good. The bad :1. Hidden switches are really terrible for usability. The "clean lines" that make it impossible to find the switch quickly are something that only a suburban housewife that doesn't actually cook could love.2. The suction surface area is actually quite small. Most of the interior is a big plate that gets filthy. Also the lights are not covered and provide ingress for grease into the inside of the machine.3. The low setting is quiet but hardly sucks any air, and the high setting sucks a lot of air but is really loud; a middle setting would have been nice. In general with Broan products I'm not impressed by the air flow to sound ratio (there's rather too much noise for the amount of air flow).4. Cheap cheap cheap. Every piece feels like they cut it down to minimum cost and quality. The switches feel stiff and fragile. It's held together by a minimum of screws. There are lots of holes and turbulence-creators in the air flow path. There's lots of un-padded metal on metal contact. The mounting points are not reinforced. Just typical cheapo Broan.

I had an old range hood that had reached the end of life and had to replace it with another stainless steel one of the same dimensions. Fortunately, I was able to find this one. It is well made and the filters are not flimsy, meaning that they can be washed multiple times in a dishwasher without problem. Also, the halogen lighting is very bright, giving great illumination of the range surface while cooking. There are two fan speeds. The low speed setting is very quiet, while the high speed setting, though louder, is very effective.

The dimensions are not exactly what they state. I was replacing an existing Broan of same dimensions and now have a gap on either side. Called Broan customer support and they stated they are made less than the documented spec to fit custom kitchens. Ah Buh?Low setting is not .5 sones. low and high very similar in sound and more like 5-7 sones.Wife burnt hand using halogen lamps. Lamps placed too close to switch and not visible...switched to led and recommend doing so.Spot welds visible on hood but not over bearing.

This range hood is the closest I found to a professional looking hood, for about half the price, and Amazon's price beat them all! My electrician had little problem with installation and it looks terrific. The low speed is so quiet you can hardly hear it, but works well enough to eliminate steam from something simmering on the stove. The high speed is a bit noisier, but that's okay. I am delighted.

We ended up buying this range hood after we received a damaged hood from another online retailer. I'm really glad we went with this one, rather than just getting a replacement for the lower powered, damaged hood. As usual, Amazon delivered the item quickly and in good condition. This is definitely the best option for someone who's trying to get the best function and style in their hood, without spending a fortune. It's a wonderful sleek look, with concealed controls. The low setting is barely audible. The high setting isn't overly loud, but it would be hard to have a conversation while cooking under it. The plus side is that it moves a ton of air. So much air, that my husband was salting his popcorn on the counter next to the hood, and the hood was actually pulling the salt right out of the air and into the vent. You should note that this range hood is larger (taller and deeper) than the standard generic hood you find in home improvement stores. The fan is so powerful that I wish we'd hung ours higher. I'm sure that the performance would still be adequate. Also, this unit was easy to install. We were doing a "light" kitchen remodel with just a $3K budget (including appliances), so this hood was a bit of a splurge for us, but I'm so glad we decided to go for it.

now this is a powerful hood range! very happy with purchase, was a little bit worried that it would look cheap and out of place in my kitchen, but lo and behold, the build quality of this unit is very high and I absolutely love the fact that it looks very clean and simple with modern styling. It is more than powerful enough for my regular sized kitchen (30 inch 5 burner gas cooktop) in getting rid of the cooking vapors. highly recommended and as per my handyman, installation was a breeze.

This hood is stylish, well built, easy to install, and effective. It is nearly silent on the low setting but as loud as any on the high setting. It does a great job of capturing and exhausting smoke over our commercial range due to its size and the design. Like a commercial hood it has a large hood to capture the fumes and the intake and fan are up inside. That way less smoke escapes to the kitchen. The lights are very bright on the high setting and a little too bright for ambiance on the low setting. We usually leave them off unless we're cooking. Another reviewer mentioned that his wife burns herself on the lights reaching for the switch because they are too close together. I don't see how that's possible unless she constantly forgets where the switch is located. But this does bring up my one criticism. The switches are mounted underneath the hood canopy where you cannot see them if you're over four feet tall. While I like that this allows for the clean lines and uncluttered look of the design, it is a bit annoying to have to bend down to look up for the switch. The other option is to fumble around blindly for it. It's not a deal-breaker but it could be improved. All in all this is a great hood and I'm glad we decided to purchase it.
